Memory-Tech, NEC, Sanyo Electric and Toshiba announced Monday the formation of the HD DVD Promotion Group. The group will promote the development of HD DVD hardware and content as well as mass commercialization of the technology. HD DVD is a blue laser format, which along with Blu-ray, is expected to make up the next generation in DVD technology. The two formats are incompatible and have been competing to be established as the successor to DVD.
The official organization, with invitations to join the group and the addition of companies, will be established by next spring.
