Gateway on Monday launched a series of wide-screen notebook PCs to be sold through retailers throughout the United States.

The new lineup includes the 3018GZ notebook, featuring Intel's Celeron M processor, a 14.1-inch WXGA wide-screen display, full-size keyboard, wireless connectivity and CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drive. The notebook is 1.2 inches high and weighs 5.25 pounds, the company said. It's priced at about $1,000.

The 4024GZ and 4540GZ systems, which weigh 5.5 pounds and measure 1 inch thick, come with Wi-Fi connectivity and are powered either by Pentium M or Celeron M processors, depending on configuration. The new notebooks also feature a DVD+/-RW drive, one IEEE 1394 and four USB 2.0 connections and a 15-inch TFT XGA display, Gateway said. The two notebooks are available starting at about $1,050.

Another pair of new notebooks--the 7422GX and 7320GZ?-feature either a Mobile Pentium 4 processor or AMD's Athlon 64bit 3400+ processor, depending on the configuration. The 7422GX has a double-layer DVD+/-R/RW multiformat drive with storage capacity of 8.5GB, while the 7320GZ includes a DVD+/-R/RW multiformat drive, the device maker said. Both PCs have WXGA 15.4-inch wide-screen displays. The pricing of the two models starts at about $1,200.

Some of the models have already begun shipping, Gateway said.
