GameSpy hires former MP3.com CEO

Online entertainment company GameSpy Industries has tapped former MP3.com Chief Executive Michael Robertson as its chairman of the board. Mark Surfas, founder and CEO of GameSpy, said he will step aside as chairman, adding that Robertson is "the right guy to help (GameSpy) win in games." The company said that as chairman Robertson will take an active role in running the board as well as helping to guide future strategies for the company. The appointment became effective two weeks ago.

Founded in 1996, GameSpy targets the gaming and entertainment industries. The company publishes software products that include GameSpy Arcade, GameSpy 3D and Roger Wilco. Robertson, who left MP3.com to pursue other interests, is also a special adviser to Vivendi Universal Chief Executive Jean-Marie Messier. Vivendi Universal recently bought MP3.com in a deal worth $372 million in cash and stock.
