The rootkit left quite an impression. Will we get to see the new improved version?

Blu-ray

Your link is broken.

I think by now, (Dec/01/05), it's pretty clear, that whoever has the lead is most likely to win. Unless ofcourse Sony does something stupid.
Blu-ray format would still be mass produced, no matter who wins. Because Sony is using Blu-ray for PS3, and They are not about to change that plan anytime soon.

No need

There's no need for the rootkit in either HD DVD or Blu-Ray,
because content protection will be built into the format, unlike
CompactDisc.

One Small problem!
by heystoopid December 1, 2005 6:16 PM PST
One small problem, for the consumer, many current questions have yet to be addressed fully, a lot of innuendo though. Given SONY's above average prices for it's products, initial capital costs, for this product, will be very expensive, when taken to the maximum of it's native resolution 1080p! The type and level of DRM, the consumer will face, has never been answered or addressed to this date! The rootkit saga, has yet to be fully answered, as 75% of the infected windows systems, are outside the USA, where all the legal action, is now in progress. SONY's level of disclosure, has been one of continuous denial and of deliberate misinformation from day one! Further, even the RIAA's Cary Sherman's latest public statements fully condone SONY's criminal behaviour and believes they have done no wrong! For this product, too many ifs! and unanswered question will remain, until we see handle and or buy the actual product. Only time will tell, but then again, if multi terabyte holographic drives become the norm in 2010, who indeed will want to buy yesterdays technology, for a full home music and video media library loaded on one disc will always win hands down! Until arrival, any information regarding this product is mere pre-release propaganda, of indeterminate substance!!!!!

Blu-Ray is better for all involved.
by MacOSXguy December 2, 2005 8:49 AM PST
I am completely behind the Blu-Ray team. Simply put it is a better
product therefor it deserves to be the leader. If you look at it all the
major players are behind it. Nearly all of the DVD player
manufactures are behind it, as well as all the major computer
players. There is a reason everyone wants Blu-Ray it is better for
the consumer and better copy protection for the distributer. All
around Blu-Ray is the way to go, as soon as we accept that, the
sooner we all can be enjoying High Definition DVD's in our homes.

Not PC industry
by alkamar_2000 December 2, 2005 10:19 AM PST
If you look more closely, the pc guys along with Microsoft are leaning toward the Toshiba spec as it is considered better suited for the computer. It is simply an extension of existing proven architecture which is much cheaper produce. Modifications of existing facilities can be made to produce the format.
