Yahoo earnings back in black

July 11, 2002
Fox Entertainment will launch a marketing campaign on Yahoo for several TV shows in its fall lineup and for upcoming movies.

According to the companies, Fox will tout "The Bernie Mac Show," "24," "Fastlane," "Firefly," "John Doe," "The Shield" and "The Pentagon Papers," as well as the movies "Daredevil," "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen," "Solaris" and "X-Men 2."

The deal, announced Thursday, is an extension of an earlier pact in which Yahoo was promoting Fox movies and videos.

The announcement comes as online media companies struggle amid a weak ad climate. America Online Time Warner recently announced that poor sales of ads threatened revenue targets at its AOL division. Analysts have been concerned that the trouble could spill over to Yahoo.

Yahoo had previously been hit by an ad slowdown but recently announced its first profit in six quarters.

Fox's marketing, which will include exclusive video material from the shows and movies, will appear throughout Yahoo's properties. Financial terms of the deal were not released.
