Forrester rates client security suites

Forrester Research issued a report on client security suites on Wednesday, giving McAfee top billing as market leader. Security vendors were evaluated based on their ability to provide protection against known threats and the comprehensiveness of their offerings--such as antivirus, anti-spyware, personal firewall and host intrusion prevention systems, or IPS.

McAfee received the highest rating, although its host IPS functionality is not yet fully integrated. Symantec offered "strong spyware detection" and management features, said the report, but limited host IPS functionality. Trend Micro excelled in a unified architecture and Computer Associates was cited for the "best protection against known threats," but neither company received accolades in any of the other areas that were evaluated.
