Software maker Novell announced Monday that Richard Seibt, the former president of Suse Linux, has resigned. Since Suse was acquired by Novell in January 2004, Seibt had served as president of Novell's operations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. During that time, Novell's Suse Linux operating system has grown to become the No. 2 product on the market, outsold only by rival Red Hat's Linux OS.
Before joining Suse in 1993, Seibt was an executive board member at United Internet, and formerly held various positions at IBM in its sales, marketing and business development divisions. Novell Chairman Jack Messman noted that Seibt was especially valuable in the merger of Suse and Novell. Seibt's duties will be assumed by Ron Hovsepian, who last week was named as Novell's president of worldwide field operations.
