Mozilla on Monday released security updates for Firefox 2 and Firefox 1.5. Security updates for Firefox 1.5 will be available only until April 24, 2007, when Mozilla will stop supporting the earlier version. Mozilla is encouraging current 1.5 users to upgrade to 2.0 soon. Current users of Firefox 2.0 and 1.5 will receive an automatic update notification and will need to reload the browser for the changes to take effect. Changes in this update patch a flaw in the FTP protocol used by Firefox.
It has been reported that a specially-coded FTP server could use this vulnerability to perform a rudimentary port-scan of machines inside the firewall. Mozilla says the vulnerability by itself poses no danger, but information about an internal network may be revealed and become useful to an attacker should there be other vulnerabilities present on the network. This update was first tested in beta release by Mozilla a few days ago.
Must be the singularity they installed, it's a drag on the system. Firefox is now almost unusable on my system, and my system isn't underpowered at all.
First, make sure the slow performance only happens with FF, and not your other browser(s) too. It is amazing how frequently an ISP will have problems with their routers affecting DNS lookup, and not even know it.
If the problem is restricted to FF: Save your bookmarks to another folder, then do a complete uninstall of Firefox, delete your FF profile from Documents and Settings, then reinstall. If you use FF password manager, refer to FF documentation as to how to save and restore this as well. If you use Add-ons, you will need to reinstall them, as well as add-ins like Flash. Yeah, it will take you about half an hour, but it usually fixes sluggishness.
... I confirm that with the version 2.0.0.2 my system became unbearable, with FF taking in all the CPU cycles and internet pages taking almost 10 seconds to load. I reverted to FF 1.5 and to Seamonkey and then I regained my previous prime surfing capability. A did uninstalled the 2.0.0.2 and reinstalled it but couldn't get it working properly. Then, instead of uninstalling 2.0.0.2, I installed 1.5 over the 2.0.0.2 and everything runs smoothly. I wonder how they managed to kill such a good browser. My OS is the XP Pro 1,024 MB of RAM

The Silicon Valley online payments startup grew by 1,000 percent last year and is hopeful it can repeat that level of growth this year. To do that, it's had to move away from its early friends-and-family roots and embrace small businesses.

Terrible update Mozilla.
