In an ironic mishap, the Federal Communications Commission--which monitors the airwaves for what it considers obscene and indecent language--today forwarded a dirty joke to subscribers of its external email list.
Anyone can sign up for the FCC's Daily Digest Mailing List, which includes a synopsis of commission orders, news releases, speeches, calls for public comment, and other information.
Today, however, an employee sent a joke to the list. Although the joke doesn't contain any of the infamous "seven dirty words," per se, it is an explicit narrative tale about nuns confessing their past sexual exploits before they can enter the gates of heaven.
About two hours after the joke was sent out, an apology followed.
"It has come to our attention that a highly offensive joke was inadvertently transmitted earlier today to the Daily Digest subscribers," Joy Howell, director of public affairs for the FCC, wrote in an email message sent to subscribers today.
"While accidental, the transmission was completely inappropriate and inexcusable," she continued. "Appropriate disciplinary action is being taken. In the meantime, we offer our profuse apologies to our Daily Digest subscribers."
The agency doesn't police Net content, so it hasn't broken its own regulations. But the commission does reprimand radio and TV stations for broadcasting language that "depicts or describes, in terms patently offensive as measured by contemporary community standards for the broadcast medium, sexual or excretory activities or organs."
Moreover, the FCC's mistake represents a growing problem in the workplace.
Seventy percent of U.S. employees say they have received personal, adult-oriented email while at work, while 64 percent say they have been sent "politically incorrect" or offensive email, according to a study released in February by market research firm NFO Worldwide.
As a result, government agencies and the private sector alike are starting to crack down on employees who play computer games, look up sports scores, loiter on pornographic sites, or send "offensive" email.
In Virginia, for example, it is illegal for state employees to use their computers to access any "sexually explicit communication."
Many firms also include email in their sexual harassment policies, prohibiting the sending of messages--or jokes like the one sent from the FCC--that could fall under federal and state statutes.

PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE ELECTION
NOVEMBER 2nd 2004
Greetings to All
I'm writing this to announce my write-in candidacy for the
office of President of
the United States of America. It's late in the game and I
didn't want to do this but
I think the American people deserve another choice besides
tweedle-dum and
tweedle-dee, the 2 candidates our major political parties have
trotted out for us.
I'm not saying they're bad men. How could anybody know one
way or the other
with all the political packaging that goes on. Then there's the
fact that they're
both rich beyond anything us average working stiffs could ever
imagine. I can't
relate to them and I sure as hell don't believe they can relate
to me. They may
both be fine men but let's face it, you're not just electing a
man. When you vote
for one of them, you're voting for a political machine. If you
vote for me you'll be
voting for the person I am and the values I hold sacred, I'm
going to tell you what I would do as President and what I
believe is right. I'm not taking any polls to see what the
majority of you think about this thing or that thing or what
you want to hear so I can be elected. I don't want to be
elected unless you hear what I believe in and what I intend to
do and decide that I'm the one you want to be in charge. I'm
59 years old, father of 4, grandfather of 10, born and raised in
Arizona on a ranch that my Grandparents started up. I need a
job. That's
another reason I'm running. My job was outsourced and I
haven't been able to
get another one.
First Priority: The Economy and Jobs
I worked in the integrated circuit industry so I have some
knowledge about
where we're going with electronic brains. We have lost and we
are going to
continue losing jobs to automation and robotics. Long term the
outlook is this:
zero jobs for human beings. Believe it. Whether it takes 20
years or 50 years
we're making computer chips faster and smarter every year
and they are taking
jobs that used to be done by humans and they are going to take
them all.
Don't believe the ******** that say you'll get a job tuning up
robots. You won't.
Robots will do that job too. But don't despair. This can be a
very good thing if we plan for it. Machines aren't going to
complain about long hours or low wages, they aren't going to
suddenly become conscious sentient beings, turn evil, and try to
destroy us. That's baloney. What they will do is tirelessly
turn out very high quality products at a very low price but
here's where the problem comes in. If there are no jobs, where
will us humans get the money to buy the products the machines
produce? If nobody can buy, the factories stop, civilization
breaks down, and most of us starve, but many will die in violent
struggles for the last bit of food supplies. And for what?
We're a free people. Why can't we just vote to do whatever it
takes to keep the factories rolling [answer = we can] and
either just distribute the output of the factories to everyone
for free or come up with an equitable way to distribute money
so people can buy the products. Some might think that the rich
will oppose me in this but not if they're smart. If civilization
collapses they're not rich any more!
I assume they would like to continue to live in the lifestyle to
which they've become accustomed. They've all gotten rich
selling their products to the masses of workers. In order to
stay rich they need somebody to buy their products. I'll admit
I don't have every detail ironed out on how to solve this
problem but listen up!
At least I recognize there is a problem, A huge one, The
other 2 guys don't have
a clue. And friends, while we haven't reached zero jobs yet, we
are already
suffering major job losses because of this trend and it's going
to keep getting
worse. We need to start working on this now and some dumb
ass tax cut isn't
going to get it. No one knows what the real unemployment rate
is in this country
because they stop counting you after a while. Did you know
that? If you're out
of work too long they just quit counting you on the rationale
that you must be
unemployable. What a crock. Like there's something wrong with
you; like it's
your fault so you don't count anymore. If you want to be
counted, show up at
the polls on election day and write in my name for President.
Robert C Power. We need to face up to the fact that there
just aren't enough jobs anymore and stop the suffering of
people and families who simply can't get a job. We can do it
but not unless somebody admits there's a problem and defines
what the problem is. The other 2 guys are stuck in the last
millennium and are peddling the solutions that
worked in the good old days. Those days are gone and they're
gone forever. This is going to be difficult because itÕs
contrary to what youÕve been hearing. Try to step back a
minute, and use your own common sense: look with your own
eyes at the experiences of yourself and of your neighbors.
YouÕll see that it takes a damn whole lot of rationalization to
convince yourself that the old methods are going to work.
Americans were raised on the work ethic and it took us far,
but friends, it's not going to cut it any more. We absolutely
have to make a radical change or else. If we all work together
we can have utopia, if we don't we'll have hell on earth.
Next problem: Terrorism and Foreign policy.
I'll tell you right now I'm radical on this issue. But listen,
don't you think there is
something really very wrong when in a country we've declared
war on and
conquered, there are still a bunch of jackasses going around
cutting off peoples heads. Not only that but doing it on TV?
That's the biggest crock of **** I ever heard of and if I'm
elected President that **** will come to a screeching halt.
Here's my plan. As soon as I take office and somebody does
that, I'll issue an ultimatum that has 2 parts. If their is a
2nd beheading anywhere in the country, I'm going to drop a
nuclear bomb on that ******* city. I think there are good
people in that country and some of them know who the bad
people are that are perpetrating these criminal acts. I'm
sorry but if the good people of Iraq want their country to
survive they can't just stand back anymore. They either take
out the bad guys themselves with some loss of blood or they
get vaporized. Before you automatically reject this plan you
better think about how things are going in this world. A lot of
people hate us already and they're not going to hate us any
less no matter what we do. But I'll guarantee you, if I'm
President they're going to learn to respect us. I am a
humanitarian believe it or not. I believe the
average Iraqi, Frenchie, North Korean, whoever, just wants to
live their lives in peace and feed their families. Unfortunately
there are a few bad eggs in every
country and some of them have taken control. I'm sorry but
the good guys have
to take it back. As far as I'm concerned if I take an oath to
be the Commander in
Chief of the U.S. Armed Forces, then I'm not going to send out
a single American soldier in harms way without backing him or
her up with the full might of America behind them.
we can't do this because France will be offended, you can't do
that because the U.N. won't approve. That's fine if we're
talking about the arrangements for a tea party at the white
house, If we're talking about American soldiers being
deployed. I'm going to back em up all the way. Anybody that
doesn't like it can go **** themselves and if they're stupid
enough to actually take punitive action against us, they will
regret it. If I have to kill a billion Iraqi's to save one
American life then that's what I'll do. If we don't take a hard
line stance now, we're going to be putting up with this ********
forever and eventually one of those dumb ***** will get lucky
and release some germ that kills everything on the planet. Do
you want to risk that? How many innocent people do you have
to see getting their head cut off on TV begging for their life
while their moron sadistic captors gleefully stick their
tongues out at us and in public take another life. I say we stop
it and stop it now. If there are any good Iraqi's they can stop
it and save their country. If there aren't then they deserve
their fate. I'll make a prediction though. It took only 2 atomic
bombs to get Japan to decide to join the civilized world: but of
course the Japanese are intelligent. I'll predict 4 for Iraq
and hope I'm wrong. Don't worry about starting world war 3.
Know why? We're already in it that's why. Can't you see our
enemies are carefully doing as much as they can to harm us
without actually provoking us into using our full military
might. I want to end this nonsense now. I want peace over the
entire globe and it's in our power to bring that about. Do you
want to pass this on to the next generation when we can end it
now. think about it. please think about it. Elect me and lives
will be saved, especially American lives, and long term, lives
saved all over the world.
3rd topic: Health, Justice System, Banks, Insurance
Companies, Drug Companies.
Some of you know this, some don't, but all of the above are
just part of one
issue: greed gone wild. America has been rich for so long that
the fat cats have
begun to believe that nothing is going to change that and so
have changed their focus from getting rich by actually selling
something useful, to instead just
competing with each other to try to get the biggest piece of
the pie. In the
process, as many of you are aware, they have come perilously
close to killing
the goose that lays the golden eggs [i.e. the American worker,
the middle class
working stiff, in short....us]. At least the robber barons of the
earlier era built
railroads, highways, telephone systems, etc., all products and
services that
benefited every American. The descendants of those robber
barons seem to
think the American economy has built up so much momentum
that it can't be
stopped and they just want to take another whack off our
haunches every trip
around the track. They're killing us and they've almost killed
the whole system
but they're too dumb to know it or they would have done
something about it.
Because ultimately, if we fail, they fail too. Who has most of
the money in America? Banks and insurance companies, with
drug companies blowing hot on
their heels. When I was 18 years old the inflation rate in this
country was
something like 12% and the most any bank could charge for
interest was 18% but
they still made money like crazy. Now some credit cards have
25% interest rates,
compounded daily, while the inflation rate is down around 2 or
3%. They suck
you in with promotional rates that are very low but if you read
the fine print, you
find that there are a number of ways for you to lose that rate
and get promoted
to their max rate and in fact, it happens to almost everybody.
Does this make
sense? If the bank determines I'm a high risk debtor, do they
actually increase
the chances of me paying them off by changing my interest rate
from 0% to 25%?
No. Do they want me to pay them off? No. They want me to
pay them the
maximum amount of money they can get out of me for the rest
of my life for the
cost of their original investment. Is this justice? Where is
our justice system?
They're very busy prosecuting people who have the audacity to
buy their drugs
from someone other than the big drug companies.
Drugs: You all do know that the United States has the highest
per capita prison
population of any industrialized country in the world don't
you? And that
includes Red China who is well known for using prisoners as
slave labor. We're
no.1 in this area and the no. 1 reason that's putting people in
prison is NON-VIOLENT DRUG OFFENSES. These are
people who weren't robbing anyone: weren't doing anything to
anyone else. All they were doing was trying to find some
happiness by using a drug that wasn't sold to them by a major
drug company, You know, one of those companies that spend a
fortune putting commercials on TV in an attempt to brainwash
all of us into believing that if we aren't deliriously happy
every second of every day, there's probably a drug we should be
taking at least once a day for the rest of our lives. It's
beaten into our heads from early childhood that drugs are the
answer to most of life's problems and if you fall for it,
everything's OK unless you buy from a street vendor or a
friend of a friend. I know a lot of you have bought into this
philosophy and actually think that Prozac is ordained by God
and methamphetamine is the tool of the devil. Get over it
people. We're locking up people who were doing fine in every
other way but they got drugs from an unapproved source. Drugs
aren't evil or holy either one. OK. Yes, drug's can do a lot of
harm. Yes, if you become addicted to crystal meth it can ruin
your life but does it always? How long do you want to continue
this travesty? Even if meth were the tool of the devil, we are
not winning the war on drugs. We pour tons of money into
trying to stop it and there isn't anyone in America who wants
illegal drugs that isn't getting it whenever they want it. Our
policy is not preventing anyone from doing drugs, not even the
people in prison. What it is doing is taking mothers away from
their children, it is causing us to have a huge national debt. It
costs us more to house someone in prison than it does to pay
their way through college. Is this smart? What is the priority
here? Pay a ton of money to prevent people from doing drugs
that doesn't stop anyone? It doesn't. The Right to the Pursuit
of Happiness: What is wrong or sinful about people wanting to
be happy? Doesn't the Declaration of Independence say that
we hold these truths to be self-evident? That all of us were
created equal and that certain rights were endowed to each of
us by our Creator [aka God] and that among these is the right
to the pursuit of happiness? What the **** happened? Our
ancestors fought a war to secure a right unalienably endowed
to us by our Creator, They founded a government to insure
that right was never taken from us again, and now that same
government puts people in prison for attempting to exercise
that right. Listen, when we talk about the cost of freedom
we're usually talking about our soldiers fighting against
foreign governments who would take us over. Somewhere along
the line we lost sight of the fact that a major cost of freedom
is that if people are truly free to live their lives however they
want, some of them will make stupid choices that are very
costly to themselves and their families. Is it right to deprive
an entire population of the right to choose because a few will
choose stupidity? So I'm asking you, do you want to be free or
not? There is a cost sure, but right now you are paying a very
high price for a few stupid people. Why not let them suffer
their own consequence and retain your own money and liberty
for the things that you want for yourself and your family.
Land of the Free ? None of you are free right now and you're
a damn fool if you think you are. Suppose you get an infection
that you've had before and you
know if you go to the Dr. exactly what will be prescribed. Can
you skip the
expense and time of going to the Dr. and just go buy what you
need? NO! If we
were free, we could do that. We could choose to take the
chance of acting as
our own Dr. go the drugstore and get what we need. Yes, their
is a cost. Sometimes somebody will be wrong and they'll die.
You think Dr.'s are never wrong? Do you want to be free or
not? The insurance companies have everyone of us buckling up
our seatbelts every time we get in the car under penalty of law
if we don't. How was that law justified? It's on this basis. If
you get in a wreck, even if it's just you and a telephone pole,
and you are killed then you are no longer able support your wife
and kids. Who has to pick up the cost of that? Insurance
companies do? By the way our own government is the largest
insurance company in the world by way of social security and
Medicare. So it comes down to this. You represent a potential
liability to those companies if you don't take care of yourself
and you're an asset if you do. Therefore they have an
investment in you, i.e. they own at least a little piece of your
ass. You don't own it, they do, and because they do, they have
the right to require you to buckle up your seat belt to protect
their property. You're not free my friends,
you are property of the government and they don't trust you
to make wise decisions for yourself. Do you realize we're only
one step away from the government telling us that we can't
have that extra piece of chocolate cake, that from now on
you're going to do 50 sit-ups every night? it's not being done
yet because the public outcry would be too great but the
principle has already been established in the seat belt laws.
They own you and they have a right to protect their
investment. Banks and insurance companies invest in and
control drug companies and HMO's. The HMO's now have the
Dr.'s marching in lock step prescribing the medication that
maximizes the profits made by the drug companies and the
justice department keeps busy punishing anyone who dares to
defy the system. Got all that? Want to keep things like they
are? Vote for Bush or Kerry, it doesn't matter, they're both
committed to continued support for that way of life. They're
both committed to the continued enslavement of the American
people. TheyÕre both committed to the Political Machine. IÕm
not. I am committed to ending this perversion and distortion
of our Constitution. I am committed to seeking solutions. To
identifying the problems and finding answers and solutions. I
am committed to "WE THE PEOPLE". ThatÕs you and me, all of
us. I am committed to the end of entertaining lies and
cover-ups and attempts to fool the American citizen . WE are
in this together, and we will need everyone to participate and
join hands, to unite and take back our freedom, our liberty.
ItÕs rightfully ours even though we watched in silence as they
stole it right from under our noses! But now that WE
recognize our error: we recognize that our freedom has not
been sacrificed for our safety as we have been led to believe
but was just more food for the Machine. The machine that will
continue to grow bigger and hungrier until every last breath
of liberty is gone. The machine that desires to have itÕs own
offspring of robots, the adoption of the American people into
slavery. Forget about race and nationality issues, this applies
to ALL of us.
If you want to be free, vote for me on November 2nd. Write
in my name for President on election day. ROBERT C POWER.
Plant that name in your memory and write it on your ballot. I'll
change that system. WeÕll change that system together in a
heartbeat
. And don't fret about whether I can do it or not. I know all
the stories about the President being a puppet of the super
rich and they're true. But the super rich are so blind they're
destroying themselves and I believe I can make them see that.
But even if I can't get cooperation from the puppet masters
or congress or any of those ass holes, I've got an ace up my
sleeve. As President, it is my Constitutional Right to declare
martial law in the event of a national emergency and it's my
prerogative to decide what constitutes a national emergency. I
believe these attempts at the destruction of our economic
system, the wrongful imprisonment of innocent people, and the
government's enslavement of the American people constitutes
a national emergency and if martial law is what it takes to
stop that, that's what it's going to be. Do you believe the
career military officers of the American Armed Forces will
follow the orders of their Commander in Chief? I do. The few
I've known are the most patriotic people anywhere and are
just as disturbed about the direction our civilian government
is taking us as I am. You elect me President and there will be
some major changes right away.
Q&A: I wish I had time to answer every question that could be
thought of to ask
me because I know a lot of you will be scared about the radical
point of view I'm
putting forward. What about people being free, getting drunk,
and going around
killing with their cars? If somebody hurts someone else doing
that kind of thing, I
say lock 'em up and throw away the key. In a free society
everyone has to be
responsible for their own actions. I believe everyone should be
able to get as
drunk as they want or as high on drugs as they want but if they
hurt someone
else when they're in that altered state of consciousness, no
second chances. If they have to steal to support a drug habit,
lock them up. Put them behind bars. All you have to do to avoid
prison is make sure, before your judgment is impaired, that
somehow you will not go driving around town in that condition,
or flying an airplane, or anything that could hurt someone else.
don't get drunk and decide to go hunting with a high powered
rifle, OK? That's where I come down on that issue. I believe it
is absolutely wrong to deprive the whole population of their
right to pursue happiness any way they want ; but any
individual who fails to exercise the responsibility that comes
with that freedom will lose their freedom. I don't believe the
government has the right to pass laws taking away every
citizen's rights because of what might happen. Saving One
Life: I'm so damn tired of hearing these brain-dead do gooders
uttering the phrase, "If it saves one life, then it's worth it."
I want to puke every time I hear that. You can justify
anything you want with this phrase. What if it costs a hundred
lives to save that one life, is it still worth it? What if the
cost of saving one life is 300 million people living miserable
lives as slaves of their government instead of living free and
proud and making their own decisions? What about that? And
how about this one, what if the cost of saving that one life is
the loss of our immortal souls to the devil? Or maybe what if
it only costs us our own self respect? I'll guarantee that if
automatic weapons were legalized for all, some people might
get killed but at least one life would be saved. We've had so
much ******** shoved down our throats with that "If it saves
one life" mantra. Let me give you a little tip, if the one life
you want to save is your own do not utter that phrase around
me. If you do there might be a sharp pencil that suddenly
levitates and stabs your dumb ass in the neck. I'm not saying I
would do that, I don't have the power to levitate inanimate
objects. I'm just saying it might happen. I have been known to
have hunches about things that turned out to be right
Our Responsibility: Like it or not, God gave this planet to us
and gave us all the tools and powers we needed to do the job.
God gave us free will and intelligence. Personally I think God's
going to be pissed if we keep giving a vote of no confidence in
the gifts we were given. We weren't meant to live like sheep
with every decision made by our shepherd (the government) in
exchange for the security of being led to where the food and
water is. We need to go down to the river and pray on this one
brothers and sisters. They never led you to food and water,
It's always been there in abundance. Where we are being led
now is to a slaughter. We were made in the image of God,
perhaps not in physical resemblance but in the very God like
power bestowed on us. We have the power to create and to
destroy. The power of free will and the ability to think and
make sound judgements. Those are miracles and what do we do
with them? Just throw them on the trash heap. If you don't
use the brains and the power that God gave you, I hope I'm not
standing too close when you face your Creator on Judgment
Day.
Jesus Christ!: Bear with me, I'm almost done. If you are
Christian, I especially appeal to you to support me. Christ
came here to save us. But we've all been lied to about it. He
didn't come to save us from original sin. He came here to save
us from the liars. He came here to save us from having to
worry about being saved and to free us from all the
superstitious ******** that religious leaders were spouting and
still are. Think about it. What was kicking over the money
changers tables in the Temple all about it? The message I got
was this. We are free to disregard all the superstitious
nonsense and live our lives as decently as we can, and that's all
you have to do to be saved. You're not going to be rewarded for
sacrificing a lamb or a chicken or anything else, OK? I'm not
saying there is no value in certain traditions to signify your
beliefs but there is no way anyone who has lived their life
always trying to do what they believe to be right is going to
hell just because they weren't a certain affiliation. Mormon
or a Catholic or a Baptist? ItÕs all Greek to God, weÕve been
focusing on the wrong things folks. Get past the icons and the
idols. You're not going to hell just because you don't get down
on your knees in some church in front of a preacher who isn't
any better than you and say out loud that you believe that
Jesus Christ is your personal Savior. You won't be saved by
being dunked under water. Use your head, cut through the
******** and hear the message Jesus brought you. What do you
have to do to get to heaven? Open your eyes and see, pull the
wax from your ears and listen: Do unto others as you would
have them do unto you. Love your neighbor as much as you do
yourself and act like it OK? Be good. That's all. If you can do
that successfully thereÕs not much use for all the other lawsÕ,
is there? You don't get to heaven by performing some
superstitious ritual, that doesn't ******* matter to God. How
you live your life is what matters. Whether you do things with
love in your heart or malice. That's what matters. God gave us
some very precious gifts and a bunch of liars took them away
by using people's fear of God. Jesus came here to tell us all
you don't need to be afraid as long as you're trying to do
right. Anybody that says any different is either a liar or
they've been duped by the liars. Stop being afraid. Stop
letting others tell you what to believe. Start listening for
yourself and start acting by your own beliefs. If you really
have faith in God and faith that God is a good and just God, you
know that I'm right. Tell the liars to go to hell and stand up
like the sacred miraculous person you are and let's take back
control of our country, of our world and make it work for ALL
of us. OK? Vote for me, and together we'll do it.
Think Freedom, Think Liberty, Think Power and vote for Power
on November 2nd. Vote for Robert C Power. Write my name in
and begin taking back what is rightfully yours. Lets work
together, join forces, to again be the greatest country in the
world. We can do it! We can do it together. I am willing to
stand up and extend the invitation. Are you willing to join me?
Are you willing to be counted? Are you willing to begin a new
future? The time is now. DonÕt delay any longer, donÕt delay
until you no longer have the choice.
Sincerely Yours,
Robert C Power

(4 Comments)PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE ELECTION
NOVEMBER 2nd 2004
Greetings to All
I'm writing this to announce my write-in candidacy for the
office of President of
the United States of America. It's late in the game and I
didn't want to do this but
I think the American people deserve another choice besides
tweedle-dum and
tweedle-dee, the 2 candidates our major political parties have
trotted out for us.
I'm not saying they're bad men. How could anybody know one

with all the political packaging that goes on.
