Extreme Networks upgrades on the double

Extreme Networks has released a new version of its network management software, doubling the number of networked computers the tool can monitor, the company said Monday. Extreme makes equipment used to direct online voice and data traffic. The Santa Clara, Calif.-based company said Epicenter 4.0 should help customers increase network availability by letting them oversee networks of up to 2,000 personal computers and servers.

Network management software helps network administrators monitor networks for outages and other problems; configure network switches; and create interconnections between switches that allow computers to "talk" to other computers on the network. Epicenter 4.0 includes a new network topology tool, a visual depiction of the entire network, and an improved network administrator interface. The product starts at $6,995 for new users and is available now.
