Texas Instruments (TXN) announced today that it is extending its line of Extensa notebooks to include 12.1-inch screens and CD-ROM drives hitting speeds of 10X.

The Extensa 600 series notebooks will feature either 120-MHz or 133-MHz Pentium processors with a 12.1-inch dual scan LCD screen as standard on some models, 6X or 10X CD-ROM drives, Zoomed Video support, and removable hard drives in sizes ranging up to 2.1GB.

TI is including a PCI Card expansion slot into the 600-series, and is touting upcoming cards which will allow for 10BaseT/100BaseT Ethernet connections using the FireWire standard for data transfer.

The 600CD and 605CD come with a 120-MHz Pentium processor, 8MB EDO memory, 810MB hard drive, 6X CD-ROM, infrared serial port, and 12.1-inch SVGA dual-scan display for $2,299.

The 650CD and 655CD models come with the 133-MHz Pentium processor, 256KB of L2 cache, 16MB of EDO memory, 2MB of video RAM, a 10X CD-ROM drive, and 1.35GB hard drive.

The 655CD and 650CD models, both of which feature the 12.1-inch SVGA dual-scan display, will be priced at $3,299. The 650CDT will come with the same features, but will substitute a 11.3-inch SVGA active-matrix display and 2.1GB hard drive for a list price of $3,799.

TI says that the new models will be available in late October.
