Egghead promotes Amazon to customers

Defunct electronics e-tailer Egghead.com e-mailed its former customers on Wednesday, informing them of Amazon.com's recent acquisition of Egghead's site and offering a discount to shop there. Customers who order $99 or more from Amazon's electronics, computers or software stores will receive a $10 discount and free shipping.

Amazon bought Egghead's URL and other intellectual property assets in bankruptcy court last week for $6.1 million. Seattle-based Amazon plans to relaunch Egghead's Web site in the coming months. Although Amazon acquired Egghead's customer data as part of its purchase, the company is requiring Egghead customers to reregister their account information before making a purchase. Egghead Chief Executive Jeff Sheahan said Egghead assisted Amazon in e-mailing its customers.
