EA to create "Lord of the Rings" games

Video and PC games publisher Electronic Arts announced Tuesday that it has signed a deal with New Line Cinema to produce games based on "The Lord of the Rings" movies. The "Rings" film series opens Wednesday with "The Fellowship of the Ring," to be followed by "The Two Towers" next year and by "The Return of the King" in 2003.

The agreement gives EA exclusive rights to produce "Rings" games for video game consoles and handheld game systems. EA said it expects to have its first "Rings" game on shelves next fall.
