Downtime for TiVo

TiVo's digital video recorder service experienced some dead air Sunday after a router in the building where the company keeps its servers crashed around midnight. TiVo subscribers couldn't download TV programming information or access TiVo.com for about 12 hours. It took another 12 hours for the service to come back up completely.

The company acknowledged the outage. A spokesman said Wednesday that most subscribers should not have experienced problems because the recorders keep 14 days worth of program information on the hard drive. TiVo is looking into adding another server facility. TiVo's service allows people to record television shows to a hard drive instead of on videotape.
