Digital sharpens its colors

Digital Equipment (DEC) introduced two new models of color laser printers today aimed at network-based, high-quality office and digital publishing applications.

Digital's Colorwriter LSR 2000+ is powered by an Efi Fiery Xje controller and can print up to 3 pages per minute (ppm) in color mode and 12 ppm in monochrome. It is a 600-dots-per-inch printer that can produce continuous tone output at eight-bit color depth. Both models have built-in parallel and Ethernet ports for use on Macintosh, PC, and Unix workgroup environments.

The entry level model comes with 16MB of memory and is suitable for desktop publishing, overhead transparencies, and other office projects requiring high quality output, the company says. The LSR 2000+ 16MB model has a list price of $9,499.

The upgraded model comes with 32MB of memory and the Professional Color Kit, which consists of color calibration utilities and other printer utilities for use in graphics, prepress, and digital publishing applications. The LSR 2000+ 32MB model will have a list price of $10,699.

Both products are currently available from authorized resellers and distributors.
