Department of Justice chooses WordPerfect
Canadian software maker Corel has landed a huge order for its latest office suite, WordPerfect 12, from the U.S. Department of Justice, the company said Monday. The deal calls for the DOJ to license 50,000 seats, Corel said. "The DOJ chose WordPerfect Office 12 because, quite simply, our users require it to do their job. In the courts, or among attorneys, it's the tool of choice for the legal arena," Mary Aileen O'Donovan, Program Manager for the DOJ's Justice Management division, said in a statement.
Separately, Corel said Monday that the Office line of products returned to growth in 2004 in terms of revenue, sales and installed base, although the privately held company did not give any financial details.

- Maybe it was because DoJ already had computers and they needed new office software. An office suite is cheaper then business class computers, so how is getting 'free' software a deal?
