Dell ups bucks for recycling programs

Dell plans to offer $220,000 in additional grants to fund computer recycling programs in the United States and Canada. The Round Rock, Texas, PC maker on Thursday said it will disburse 22 grants of $10,000 each to help applicants such as state and local governments, universities or nonprofit groups put on recycling events this fall, Dell said in a statement.

Dell has already awarded $120,000 in grants for 12 events, which this spring collected more than 800 tons of computer equipment in several states, including Alaska and South Carolina. Applications for U.S. grants are available via Dell's Web site. They must be completed by July 30. Canadian grant applications are still in the works and will be available within two months, Dell said.
