Dell gets new storage chief
August 26, 2003
The GalaxyExpress software promises to enable companies to back up and restore data to networks with up to 25 clients. The product, designed for Dell/EMC and PowerVault storage systems, is available from Dell at prices starting at $2,495, the computer maker said in a statement.
The software works with Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle databases and NetWare environments and is capable of recovering individual e-mail messages, attachments and attributes, files and file groups, Dell said.
The CommVault data protection software has been tested on Dell's data storage systems, the company said. Last year, Dell partnered with EMC to develop and sell high-end storage area networks (SANs), while building its own PowerVault storage systems for smaller organizations.
In addition to supporting direct-attached storage (DAS), network-attached storage (NAS) and storage area network (SAN) configurations, GalaxyExpress offers disk-to-disk and disk-to-tape features.
