Gee, Dell must have been so busy with the lawsuite about dodging their warranty that they forgot to honor mine.

Don't make the mistake of an buying off-the-shelf package at your local electronics store/etc. Dell will say bye-bye after a very short time, so you had better buy a protection package right along with it.
