Dell offers data center design services

Dell on Tuesday launched a program called the Cloud Computing Solution that's geared to help customers buy not only servers and storage equipment but the larger data centers those products fit into. The service, part of Dell's new Data Center Solutions Division, is geared to help customers lower their energy costs and increase their equipment efficiency.

The service is geared in particular for "hyper-scale" computer systems, said Brad Anderson, senior vice president of Dell's product group. But Dell isn't the only company angling for this lucrative segment. Sun Microsystems, for example, has its own Project Redshift to try to tap into the purchasing budgets and product desires of fast-growth companies.
