Defense Dept. puts CA anti-spyware on patrol

The U.S. Department of Defense will use software from Computer Associates International to fight spyware, CA said Wednesday. Its eTrust PestPatrol Anti-Spyware software will be installed on more than 4 million computers, including those belonging to the Army, the Coast Guard, the National Guard, the Navy, the Marines Corps, the Reserves and the United States Joint Forces Command, CA said.

The announcement of the deal comes weeks after the Government Accountability Office said that federal agencies are not prepared to deal with the triple Internet menaces of spam, phishing and spyware. The contract is worth $6.9 million and was won by Science Applications International, which teamed up with CA, the Defense Information Systems Agency said in a statement last week.
