Daylight saving shift fails to curb energy use

Other than forcing drowsy Americans into the dark, wintry weather three weeks early, move appears to be a bust in power savings.

Energy Savings?
I thought the decision was based on people's need to have more daylight available during the afternoon so people could get more done?

energy savings
No, the government line was all about energy savings.

Gee, why am I not surprised that all the effort was for naught?

Mind you, I'm of the opinion we should do away with daylight savings altogether. I think Saskatchewan has it right.

Economics
I'm curious how the retail industry perceived the time change. Stock market closing at all-time highs... Perhaps there's a correlation?

Frankly, don't really care about energy savings. (Yes, I'm a bastard.)

But I really appreciated the extra light for the drive home. I've been thankful every day of the past three weeks for the extra light. Has even allowed me to get a walk or two in after work.

Of course not...
This was just another wonderful and well thought out plan by the Bush Administration. As soon as we get an administration that can pull their heads out of the dark holes they sit on the better this country and world will be. The Democrats should be screaming impeachment every other second (not for daylight savings time alone, though in my opinion that is enough).

Just a sign of the times....
of how stupid our government has become. Anyone with an ounce of common sense, knew this was going to do ZERO in saving energy. Our kids aren't tending crops in the summer anymore, we do not need to save money by not buying candles (One of the original DST reasons), and in short we are not in the 1800's early 1900's or in the middle of a world war....

Ameren saves more
Ameren saved more energy by not keeping its infrastructure protected from trees, still have a multi-year tree trimming backlog, can you say Stupid Execs? Anyway that probably turns out to be a wash also as people have to buy batteries, generators, ice, etc. Lucky for me the main strip stays powered up and is a whole 2 blocks away.

The DOE would have been better off sending people a compact flourecent in the mail. Of course they'd have to fire some near Genius talent to do that.

Microsoft was happy though to stick customers with older software with a $4000 hotfix fee for the DST changes. Of course they say that ammount is just to cover costs, yeah right.

MS did what?
I got my fix with the regularly scheduled updates. Just like everyone else did. Quit spreading the bs.

Great...
Just so it didn't use MORE energy, I hope they leave well enough alone.

This was like a mini-Y2K and personally, I don't feel like having to waste more time patching operating systems and applications if they decide to do away with their changes.

Just as long as it didn't make things worse - please leave it alone.

I Have More Daylight Now To Read Al's Book
Since I am using less energy now as I read AlGore's book in the sunlight, I can sell my extra carbon credit to his company. He can then buy my offsets to deal with his own gargantuan energy usage.

Is there way I can watch Al's movie without using electrical power? If I hold the DVD at just the right angle in the sunlight, can I view it? How many carbon credits would that generate?

LEAVE IT ALONE NOW!
I happen to love it being light later and hope we never change back. Depression jumps much higher when the time changes and it gets dark so early. It seems like you have no evening at all. It's just night. I don't know about anyone else, but I sure hate getting off of work in the dark.
