D-Link antennas expand Wi-Fi range

Networking-equipment maker D-Link announced on Thursday two new antennas that will increase the range of wireless networks established by D-Link's consumer-targeted Wi-Fi gear. The company said the $29.99 ANT24-0400 2.4GHz Omni-Directional and the $39.99 DWL-M60AT 2.4GHz Directional antennas are available and can be used with select D-Link 802.11b- and 802.11g-based gear.

As their names suggest, the Omni-Directional antenna increases wireless signal range 360 degrees, while the Directional increases range in a focused direction. The company did not release range figures, because environmental conditions can vary.

beware the co-ax connection!!

I bought a Hawking Tech version of this intending to attach it to my Belkin WAP. Turns out that you MUST have a WAP with a detachable antenna, using a coax connector. It also turns out that MOST wireless units do NOT have a detachable antenna. When I returned the unit to CompUSA, they said a lot of people bring them back for that reason. They did not assess the restocking fee.
