Creative Commons project goes global

The Creative Commons project said Wednesday it is escalating its efforts outside the United States. The project, led by Stanford law professor Larry Lessig, works to expand the amount of creative material in the public domain. It helps artists, writers and software coders create copyright licenses that specify precisely how other people can use their works and provides technology for appending those license instructions digitally to the works themselves. The new International Commons project will help translate those licenses into other languages, using volunteer translators in other localities.
