Beauty sites make over the Web

October 15, 1999
Even makeup can't duck the high-tech craze.

Protocol Cosmetics of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., released a line of products today with the computer in mind.

Hoping to attract cyber-hip women to its Web site, Protocol's makeup has color names such as Binary Blushes, Pixel Dust face powder and Search Engine Red lipstick.

Using peculiar names to describe the color of makeup seems to be a growing trend. Already on the market are smog-colored nail polishes, asphalt eye shadows and kitten face powders.

Protocol said it uses Internet and computer terminology to commend women who step into nontraditional careers and to educate those unfamiliar with the cyber language.

The site also features advice and "technobabble beauty tips." With a Click the Mouse spongy makeup wedge, the expert suggests applying Cntrl eye shadow base, then Alt cream before smearing on the Eyecandyz eyeshadow in Cookie color.

A ready-made face for a ".com" date, perhaps.
