Corel expands higher-education plan

Desktop-software maker Corel announced on Tuesday a new discount licensing program aimed specifically at colleges and universities. The company said it has created a simplified licensing process for higher-education institutions through the effort, which includes a set-price offer featuring technical support and training along with software.

Available through Corel's resellers, the package includes specialized versions of WordPerfect Office 12-Student and Teacher Editions, for word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations, in addition to the company's Paint Shop Pro 9 and other graphics software. Under the program, schools can license up to five of Corel's products for 83 cents per user if they have between 15,000 and 30,000 students, while departments of larger schools can pay $1.25 per user for the same applications. Corel is also offering a special single-fee program targeted at college computer labs.
