Corel discounts software for students, teachers

Software maker Corel has released a discounted academic version of the latest version of its WordPerfect Office productivity package. Released Wednesday, the new package of WordPerfect Office 12, available to students, teachers and educational and nonprofit organizations, sells for $99. The regular version is priced at $300.

Corel launched the new version of the WordPerfect package--which combines word processing, spreadsheet and other applications--early this year, positioning it as a low-cost alternative to Microsoft's dominant Office. WordPerfect competes in an increasingly crowded market for alternative productivity software.

Why pay for MS or Corel? IBM offers their Office package (Lotus SmartSuite) for FREE with all their PCs and ThinkPads! Plus, it can read and write to MS Office and Corel. MS can't say that! Why isn't there an article about that?
