San Francisco Bay Area customers of cable operator Comcast are having problems with their Internet service for the past two days, according to Comcast customer service representatives. In one case reported to News.com, Internet access has slowed to a trickle. A Comcast representative did not immediately return calls seeking comment.
Like many cable companies, Comcast has been vigorously marketing to prospective users of high-capacity products. This week the company reported a 64 percent increase in net income thanks to stronger-than-expected demand for digital video subscriptions, which included 284,000 net new digital video subscribers in the quarter. Wall Street estimated cable operators would attract an average of 178,000 such subscribers for the period. Comcast serves a total of 21.4 million basic video subscribers.
The Comcast Internet service problems started a week earlier, Wed. 7/27, with service either slowing to a very slow crawl or stopping altogether. After looking at the Comcast website to see if there were service problems (nothing found), and turning on my TV (service was fine), I called the Comcast customer line and they denied there was anything wrong with Internet service. This was patently false, and I asked which country they were in, but I think it must have been another planet. Their denial sent me off to my ISP twice and had me checking around my system to see if the cat on the keyboard had changed any settings. What a waste of time. All Comcast had to do was admit they were having problems and apologize. But they didn't, so now I'm a cranky customer.
Glad I have DSL from SBC. At least they are regulated as a common carrier. I can file a complaint with the Public Utilities Commission if I am not satisfied with their service. I have all the speed I need for $14.95 / month and so far the service has been very reliable.
As for Commiecast, seem to be a lot of speed complaints over at DSLReports. There are some horrendous route times reported by customers doing tracert. http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,14041181
Oh i got some horror storys to tell u about comcast, #1 comcast isnt the Leader in highspeed internet they say they are, they started 5 years after cox communications started it. 7 years later they are saying they are going to be the leader in phone service to, thats 7 years after cox communication. I fully agree, Cable modems are WAY better than DSL, but comcast just plain sucks, Id rather use a couple tin cans and a string. I had comcast in Merced, ca. Had it for like 6 months. For that whole six months not only did i have intermittant tv problems, i had total disconnections for hours, then when it was on id get lag in my games, so got the upgraded service (6MB) and it was worse, just going to pages even. had 16 diffrent comcasts techs/supers/mainenace, come out detect the problem but never correct it, they even gave me the first 3 months free! then at 6 months i called, said i had enough, they gave me a date they would be out to disconnect me, they didnt, drop internet, but not tv, then disconnected me a month later, and had the gaul to tell me to pay for their mistakes, sent me to collections, and & oh yeah, and&..want to charge me for a cable modem, (that i had 2 hand deliver back to them)the day i got it cus when i ordered the service, i told the rep only, 6 times, when it should have been 7, that i didnt need a cable modem, i already had 1. Then to top it all off, they want me to pay for the install, which i told them i didnt need and consisted of calling in my modems mac address, $100. If that wasnt great enough, they blame my highly tuned rocketship for a comp i got, its ur computer Do yourself a favor, vote comcast out of your community! i now live in North bay and have the same exact problems, just not as frequent,
Comcast is blowing it again. On the morning of June 29, phone and internet service went down and today, July 4 is still down. After spending an hour diagnosing, they realized that they have an area outage. Talking to them yesterday, they are still fixing it without any time frame of when complete. Not sure how many people are affected but this is now 6 days of outage. Never had a phone line out for 6 days.
