Kudos for dodging the FCC

you know... as much as folks have been up in arms about this, I think any sort of pay-for-what-you-watch system is a great idea. More than anything it else, it shows a willingness for the industry to offer alternatives to individuals who are not interested in racier content, and as a result, avoid icky regulations for cable and satellite providers.

More like dodging what Congress tried to fix!
by questonline December 22, 2005 10:52 PM PST
From the beginning Cable has forced us to pay for channels we
may not want. Tiers were set up so you ended up buying a more
expensive package to get one or two highly deired channels. I
currently pay over $100 a month so i can get digital HDTV cable
and they don't even offere all the local HD channels! This was an
attempt by Comcast and soon to follow by Time Warneer to
avoid being forced to offer all channels ala carte which is what
they really need to do in the first place. That is what Congress
what attempting to put though.

What I don't understand..
by ajbright December 22, 2005 5:31 PM PST
is why an administration whose party was forever bleating about keeping democrats from invading the privacy of your home, trying to micro manager our lives, saying they know better than you what is or isn't good for you and your family - are so hell bent on doing exactly the same thing.

Once again, it's time to ignore the wishes of the people they represent, and force us to watch what they think we should.

If a family doesn't want a particular channel or style of content, you can either block it or simply not include it in your subscription.

I'm fed up with both parties interfering with my life, and deciding what's good for me and my family.

They can all **** off quite frankly, I'll decide what offends me or isn't suitable for my children, thank you very much, and tune out anything I object to.

I think it's time to start a campaign to fire every single politician.

I don't care who replaces them, democrat, republican or independant, just as long as all of them are voted out.

It's time for the people to take back their government.

Every single one of them is bought and paid for by some business or special interest group.

If we can't have that, then I want everyone of them hooked up to a lie detector whenever they go in front of a camera, with the results being shown to us in real time.

It's friggen Comcast, not the government
by fafafooey December 23, 2005 5:58 AM PST
Your post has nothing to do with this story. Where does it say the government is forcing Comcast to do this or forcing anyone to choose that package?

You said:

"If a family doesn't want a particular channel or style of content, you can either block it or simply not include it in your subscription."

That's what Comcast is doing! So what's your beef?
People are getting tired of pornlike TV
by bobby_brady December 22, 2005 10:15 PM PST
It's really getting out of hand. The dirtbag men in this country have basically tried to shove porn into our living rooms. The sleazeballs always resort to saying it's "free speach" and decent people can simply turn it off. Well, there are many alternatives these guys can get their porn and kiddie porn. It's as if the Internet isn't enough for them. Now they want their instant porn and kiddie porn on the television. Decent people are saying enough is enough.

Better than Time-Warner's Family Tier
by mistergoodman December 23, 2005 6:17 AM PST
At least Comcast is offering Nickelodeon on their "family tier." Time Warner's family tier has... the food network. Kids nationwide struggle to contain their excitement.

Cable a la carte
by thomaskray December 23, 2005 9:43 AM PST
Instead of packaging a bunch of crap that I don't ever watch, or want my kids to watch, I wish cable companies would offer "a la carte" deals. This way we could all just pay for the individual channels we watch and block those we don't.
