Comcast, Fox strike S.F. HDTV deal

Starting at 8 p.m. Thursday, Comcast digital-cable subscribers in the San Francisco Bay Area will be able to receive HD broadcasts from Fox affiliate KTVU Fox 2, a move driven in part by the upcoming Super Bowl XXXIX. The agreement was part of a larger deal between Comcast and 14 other stations owned by Cox Broadcasting, the parent of KTVU. KTVU Fox 2 is the exclusive Fox affiliate in the Bay Area.

The NFL championship game airs on Feb. 6 from Jacksonville, Fla.

What about the Nashville Area

I wrote Comcast about a week ago and they basically told me that the HDTV subscribers were not a big enough market for them to worry about. I want to watch the Super Bowl in HD. Great news for the Bay area.

About Comcast "larger deals".

Wherever Comcast has an exclusive monopoly on broadcasting and/or internet services, (i.e. Sacramento, CA)the company is able to finance its new enterprises by utilizing customers' capital.
Comcast billing for services is two months in advance. For instance, if a billing period starts on Jan 1st, clients are required to pay Comcast fees by Dec. 1st. As soon as Comcast receives payment for the not yet provided services for the month of Jan. they receive a new billing for Feb. which most subscribers pay immediately.
A little math will give an idea of how much capital Comcast accumulates long before providing any service.
This illicit practice was standard in areas serviced by ATT Broadband and was incorporated as a rule when Comcast took over.
In addition to that, Comcast shadowy operations include shortchanging Counties. As of the date of this posting Comcast is accused to shorts Sacramento for $800,000 and the City has sued to Collect. A dispute over a franchise-fee audit in California?s state capital has mutated into a breach of contract lawsuit between the Sacramento Metropolitan Cable Television Commission and Comcast Corp.
