Cognos brings software to Linux on Power

Cognos, which sells software to help customers distill data into customized reports, plans to announce Monday its ReportNet product now is available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux running on IBM's pSeries servers. The company launched its initial Linux support in 2000.

IBM is seeking to establish pSeries servers, which are based on the company's Power processors, as a mainstream alternative to x86 chips such as Intel's Xeon and Advanced Micro Devices' Opteron. To do so, it's helping software companies translate their software for Linux on Power.
