Cisco plugs security holes

Cisco Systems on Wednesday released security fixes for its Cisco Optical Networking System 15000 Series and Cisco Transport Controller (advisory here) as well as for its Cisco 11500 Content Services Switch (advisory here). The security updates address multiple flaws, the most significant of which could allow a denial-of-service attack that could disable the target system.

The optical networking systems are typically used by service providers, such as telecommunications companies. The content switches are meant to help businesses build global networks to deliver content via the Web. The vulnerabilities in the optical networking products and transport controller are severe, while the content switch issue is low-risk, according to the French Security Incident Response Team, a security research company.
