CNET names new chief executive

CNET Networks vice chairman Shelby Bonnie is succeeding Halsey Minor as chief executive, the company said today. Minor will remain as chairman.

Bonnie, 35, will take over day-to-day management of the company. Minor, also 35, will continue to be "actively involved" in providing strategic direction, CNET said. The changes are effective immediately.

"This is a natural evolution of our company's management structure," Minor said in a statement. "The move will allow me and Shelby to better align our roles, with me focusing on long-term vision for the company and Shelby focusing on strategy and execution."

Added Bonnie: "At this stage in the company's evolution, there is a great opportunity for me to assume management of the organization and take it to the next level."

Minor founded CNET in 1992. Bonnie, who joined the company in 1993, was its first major investor. He had been chief financial officer and chief operating officer before becoming vice chairman last year. Before joining CNET, Bonnie was a managing director at Tiger Management, a New York investment firm.
