CNET acquires Metacritic

CNET Networks, the publisher of News.com, has acquired Metacritic in a move to bolster features on its GameSpot and MP3.com sites, the company announced Monday. Metacritic provides review summaries--and an overall score for critics' reviews--for games, music, videos, movies and books. Metacritic relies on reviews from at least 40 critics per category.

CNET said it plans to continue to operate the Metacritic.com site and to fold the company's relevant content into its own games and entertainment sites. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
