Seeking focus, CA will mothball some products

CA, an IT management software company based in Islandia, N.Y., plans to operate Wily as a division within its Enterprise Systems Management unit and to offer a product integration road map within 30 days of the deal's close. CA expects to complete the acquisition in the next three months.
Wily, a privately held company based in Brisbane, Calif., provides applications management software, designed to detect and diagnose application slowdowns and failures. The company's technology is installed in more than 450 corporations and government agencies worldwide.
"With this acquisition, CA will be the only company to address the management of applications, IT assets and users across all hardware and software, from the mainframe to the distributed environment," John Swainson, CA chief executive, said in a statement.
The Wily acquisition is the latest in CA's spending spree. The company last year snapped up a half dozen companies, increasing its offerings in IT systems management and security.
