CA is also planning a reorganization in the coming weeks, the company said Wednesday.
Effective April 8, Nugent will be general manager and senior vice president of CA's Unicenter business unit, reporting to Russell Artz, who is executive vice president of products. Nugent, who has 25 years of experience in information technology, left Novell earlier this month.
Unicenter is CA's systems management product line. John Swainson, who became CEO earlier this year, has said that the systems management and security lines will be CA's main drivers of future revenue growth.
CA's plan to install a new business organization in the coming weeks is designed to create more accountability for individual business units. Until now, the company has been organized around its individual brands.
"We shortly will put in place a new business unit structure focused on fostering greater accountability to the business and to customer needs, as well as giving CA the ability to be more responsive to the changing dynamics of the marketplace," Swainson said in a statement.

The company's management had been dominated by its founder, Charles Wong, and his hand-picked successor, Sanjay Kumar, who was ousted during an accounting scandal last year.
