Business Objects launches software upgrade

Software maker Business Objects on Monday said that it is shipping an upgrade to its software for pulling information from multiple data sources to generate reports on company operations. The product, called BusinessObjects Data Integrator 6.0, builds on Business Objects' acquisition last year of Acta Technologies, which sells software to move and format data into data warehouses for analysis. The upgrade is designed to combine Acta's extraction, transformation and delivery (ETL) software with Business Objects' applications for generating reports to help corporations build analytical reports faster.

DataIntegrator 6.0 adds support for extensible markup language (XML), a data exchange standard, as well as standards for handling analytical data, including common warehouse metamodel (CWM) and XML metadata interchange (XMI).
