What about asphalt?

Wouldn't the vast amounts of paved areas and roads, mostly paved with black asphalt, contribute significantly to global warming, by absorbing vast amounts of solar energy?

But I don't see any movement to curtail that, or at least switch to a far lighter pavement coloring.

Well a good point for asphalt is it lasts about half the life of concrete roads, but at 1/4th the cost.

Also, its heat keeps snow in some states off the roads as the temperatures on it remains above freezing. And thirdly, asphalt can only absorb so much heat like anything else. But the planet can absorb ALOT of heat.

But my main point however is you are misunderstanding the idea of "global warming" which is the warming of the planet due to an increase and unbalance of natural gases such as carbon dioxide which reflect heat on its way out of the atmosphere back down.

In our school days we have learnt in Physics that it is possible to split water into its basic atomic components with the application of electricity but even many great scientists overlooked the fact that Water is the better and safer storage of power, a Tremendous Amount of Power is stored efficiently, the promise water has as an alternative fuel has been unlimited using a simple process of using electrolysis to split water into hydrogen and oxygen only when required, where both the hydrogen & oxygen (HHO) gases power to drive a car's internal combustion engine will also recharge the battery that originally did the electrolysis splitting of water into hydrogen and oxygen and also the hydrogen gases will be only produced when needed just before starting the car's internal combustion engine and the electrolysis process will be switched-off when switching off the said car's engine at the same time. This said hydrogen gases-run engines will run cars, SUVs, trucks, buses, trains and airplanes so cheaply and successfully that no other alternative fuels would ever be needed. The same principles will also be applicable to run the present Coal or Gas Fired Power Stations which will save most money from fuel costs and they can reduce their present tariffs by 80% with hydrogen gases (HHO) as their final fuel source, the released of Greenhouses gases, CO2 & NO2, would also be eliminated. But these technologies will be suppressed owing to big business money and political scams from Oil Producers and other vested interests. They might even commit murder to suppress these inventions from gaining popularity and flourishing successfully.

Study some physics

and some chemistry while you are at it. You can't violate the law of conservation of energy. The splitting of water into hydrogen and oxygen is an endothermic reaction which requires energy and there is energy loss. Also if you are using that your engine to run an generator, even at 100 percent effiecency, which is impossible, all of the energy generated by combustion would have to be used to run the generator and you would have no energy left over for motive power.
