Brocade updates storage switch OS

Brocade Communications Systems, the leading maker of switches for storage networks, on Monday announced changes to its operating system designed to make its gear more reliable, more secure and easier to manage. Among the security features in the company's SilkWorm Fabric Application Platform is technology that helps ensure that only authorized users can take management actions and that any servers, storage or switches added to the network have proper approval.

EMC said it would develop software for Brocade's new architecture, while other companies including Hitachi Data Systems, Hewlett-Packard, IBM and Sun Microsystems all pledged support.
