very level reporting
by zeroplane October 23, 2007 6:26 PM PDT
I don't either way, however the article seems very one-sided and tries to highlight how great HD-DVD is even if the sales numbers don't reflect customer interest.

Personally any studio that doesn't release their products on multiple formats doesn't get bought by me. That or I find alternatives that are cheaper or (to my surprise) there are vendors in Europe and Asia that are releasing titles in both formats that are not being released here. Some are region free while other are not.

So at least I can get Transformers (2007) on Blu-ray or HD-DVD in the UK and not in the US.

Something smells rotten and it isn't the fish.

level??

Actually, this article seemed extremely biased to me. The article
can be summarized as "Blu-Ray discs are cheaper, there are
twice as many Blu-Ray players out there, they're outselling HD
DVD 2 to 1, and many more places stock them, but somehow
magically everything is going to switch next month! HD DVD
may still win!"

I know Microsoft is desperate not to have Blu-Ray's Java
interactive format win and Toshiba is desperate not to have
Sony's physical format win, but they're really screwing up the
industry with their format tantrum. Let's just admit Blu-Ray won
and get on with it.

Regions

But since HD-DVD is region free and Blu Ray is not, going HD-DVD would solve your main concern.
Region independence is the main reason I'm siding with HD-DVD. I can't beleive the Blu Ray supporters are willing to whitstand that sort of cr*p again.

Michael Bay Eating his own word - Favors Bluray
by GSRich78 October 23, 2007 8:18 PM PDT
In a recent interview with USA Today Michael Bay, talking about
the format war has said,

?It?s short-sighted and it has delayed consumers? moving to HD
(home video). As a director, my critical eye is that Blu-ray is
where my money is.?

I bet he wanted Dolby True HD as his soundtrack of choice for
his movie Transformers but due to the lack of space he had to
settle with Dolby Digital Plus. Ha!

http://www.usatoday.com/life/movies/dvd/2007-10-22-
transformers-bay_N.htm

DRM is going to kill both

until a reasonable approach to DRM is taken no new content formats are going to get adopted by me.

DRM isn't liked by people, but it doesn't stop them from jumping off the I have to have it cliff like lemmings. If DRM was such a problem companies like Microsoft with the OS activation and stronger DRM for media player, Adobe with activation, DVD, Apple and iTunes and on and on and on wouldn't be selling products like they are.

Please love to ***** and complain but seldom do anything about it. Like the Bush administration if people are really so fed up with Bush ignoring what they want then during the last election they could have given the house and senate enough democrats they could have overwritten Bush's Veto. But, now they groan and complained and then didn't bother to give them enough of a majority to do anything.

Consumers are stupid lemmings.

Robert
HD DVD needs a hand from Microsoft Xbox 360
by apham79 October 24, 2007 11:08 AM PDT
HD will win this war if Microsoft integrates HD drives into its Xbox 360 and sell them with a cheap price or willing to trade it's old Xbox 360 for a new one with discounted pricing. We already know Xbox 360s outsell PS3.

Xbox 360 doesnt matter - its STANDALONE Players that are the key

Its STANDALONE Players that are the key

And are why HD DVD doesnt need the Xbox 360. Its already winning the war where it matters.
so explain
by jrm125 October 26, 2007 12:05 PM PDT
So I'm curious...why is HD-DVD still losing in sales?

Ouch.

No wonder Blue-Ray out sold HD-DVD at first!!!!!
by jagelipse November 16, 2007 2:33 PM PST
Sony had time to plaster the market with thier Playstation3 that comes with and includes all the things needed to enjoy Blue-Ray movies and games. What did HD have?,XBOX? not quite those didn't come out until Microsoft pulled thier heads out. That is a big reason that we saw such a huge increase in sales after the first quarter, Xbox finally hasd the abiltity of playing those HD dvd's. So don't the let the sprinter fool you into thinking they are going to win a marathon.
