Big Blue marries DB2 to Eclipse

IBM is offering developers an early look at an upcoming DB2 toolkit, which provides software to write applications for the database using Eclipse open-source development tools. Big Blue is expected to announce the toolkit at next week's EclipseCon conference.

The toolkit is part of an update to DB2, code-named Stinger. IBM has been releasing periodic previews of certain features to developers. The Eclipse-oriented tools are intended to provide database designers with visual tools for handling data. They will include a driver to ensure that DB2 is compliant with the most recent Java standards and work with Rational XDE Developer database design tools. The toolkit preview is available at IBM's developer Web site.
