Basque Web site under Spanish attack?

  • Post a comment
A Basque organization returned to the Internet today, saying the Spanish government staged an email assault that forced the group off the Web.

The Euskadi Koordination, or Basque Solidarity Committee, says the electronic barrage began after reports in Spanish newspapers suggested that the group and affiliated Basque terrorist organizations might be using the Internet to direct bombings in Spain.

All of the emails originated from Spain and were generated by a computer programmed to send a constant stream of messages.

The committee has now relaunched its Web page, two months after the torrent of messages crashed the servers of the Swiss Internet service provider used by the Zurich-based group. The new page is being hosted by the Knooppunt gateway, an alternative Internet access service that provides space for politically oriented Web sites.
