BEA looks to modernize Tuxedo

BEA Systems on Monday released Tuxedo 9.0, an update to the back-end transaction processing software that launched the company 10 years ago.

Tuxedo is high-end transaction software used for processing high volumes of data. While BEA's WebLogic line of middleware is built around the Java language, Tuxedo is aimed at C, C++ and Cobol programmers. With version 9, the company has made changes designed to make it easier to connect existing Tuxedo programs to other business systems, according to BEA executives. BEA has improved the server software's support for industry standards, notably XML-based Web services specifications. With the update, customers can also use non-BEA security mechanisms, including digital signatures and a public key infrastructure system, through the Kerberos standard.
