Apple touts its open source OS

Apple's Steve Jobs is preaching open source to the masses. In a move to capture some of the spirit of the Linux programming philosophy, the computer maker announced the release of its Mac OS X Server. Meanwhile, Linux users still struggle in the mainstream. Just last week, users missed out on an early Internet release of the new Star Wars trailer, lacking a viewing platform.

The computer vendor takes its first tentative steps toward the open source philosophy by opening up the source code to parts of its Mac OS X Server in an effort to garner support from developers.
