Apple tests 24-hour chat support

Apple Computer is testing 24-hour a day Web-based chat support for some customers. For now, the option is available only to iMac customers who either bought their machine in the past 90 days or who have purchased an AppleCare extended warranty.

"If you have an iMac and need help, give it a try and tell us what you think," Apple said in message on its Web site. The service requires customers to use Safari 1.1 or later, Microsoft Internet Explorer (Mac version) 5.2 or later, or Netscape 7.2 or later. For those trying to get support through a Windows machine, Apple supports Internet Explorer 5.0 or later.

iMacs only??? What about PowerBooks?
This is stupid.

Web Chat Support should be for all Macs

They're testing it...
The reason why the iMac is the only product being handled is because they're still testing how it will carry through. If Apple believes it's a feasible resource then they'll probably open up to other products. Most likely they'll be covering everything else soon.

True VPC7 Support.
Why else would Apple support IE on Windows machines?
It's not like this is a prelude to the next act.
Is it?
