Apple releases Java fix for Mac OS X
Apple Computer on Thursday released a patch to help customers who encountered Java problems after upgrading to Mac OS X 10.3.9, the latest minor update to Apple's OS.
According to Apple, Mac OS X's Java implementation makes use of a shared archive, but Mac OS X 10.3.9 created a scenario in which that archive can become incompatible with the virtual memory in which information is stored, resulting in Java crashing. The Java update released on Thursday fixes the issue, but also deletes the shared archive. For those who run a large number of Java applications simultaneously, Apple has posted steps to restore the archive.
