Apple fixes security in Panther, Jaguar

Apple Computer this week issued a security update for the recently released Mac OS X, Panther, and for the preceding operating system, Jaguar.

introduced late last month.

Apple has come under fire from some in the security community who feared that it was not planning to patch the Jaguar flaws and that it would instead force people to upgrade. However, the Cupertino, Calif.-based company said it would patch the holes in earlier Mac OS X versions, as it had done in the past.

The security patch, dubbed Security Update 2003-11-19, was made available Wednesday at Apple's Web site.

In addition to one previous security patch to Panther, Apple has released a minor update to the OS that is designed to fix some early problems.
