Apple fixes Java flaws in Mac OS

Apple Computer on Tuesday released security updates for Mac OS X 10.3.9 (also known as Panther) and its more recent Mac OS X 10.4.2 (called Tiger). The updates fix a handful of security vulnerabilities in the Java software on Mac OS and are available on Apple's Web site and through the Software Update service.

The flaws could be exploited by attackers to bypass certain security restrictions, disclose sensitive information or gain elevated privileges, according to an advisory from the French Security Incident Response Team, or FrSIRT, which deems the issue "critical."
