Apple: Buy laptop and iPod, get $200
Apple Computer has launched a new promo that offers college students a $200 rebate when they buy an Apple notebook computer along with an iPod (the original, not the iPod Mini). The "Cram and Jam" deal runs through Sept. 25 and excludes the low-end CD-ROM version of the iBook. It covers all other iBooks and PowerBooks.
The offer comes as Apple faces a product gap in the back-to-school selling season. Apple has said it has stopped taking orders for the current generation of iMacs and won't have the new model ready until September.

If your funds are limited - the emac is nearly as fast and really the only difference was the $400 for the LCD screen - if you can live without that - why not buy an emac and have $400 towards a 20GB ipod?
But whether your funds are limited or not - I would think 90% of students want a laptop to tote around campus and even to take home on break - whats' easier - a laptop or a computer with a big swivel neck? And of course, the ibook & PB cover pretty much every students needs from cost to power - the full range.
And I guess for those who can afford $50k for school, might as well get the fastest and best desktop on the planet along with a 30" flat screen ...
