Amtrak hitches up Ariba Buyer

Showing that it has not been completely derailed by the current economic downturn, Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Ariba Monday said that Amtrak has selected the Ariba Buyer technology to automate its purchasing. The railroad company will use Ariba Buyer to manage its supply and services procurement, and its employees will be able to purchase supplies from their computer desktops. Requests are electronically submitted for approval and then forwarded to the company's suppliers. Andersen will integrate the Ariba technology with Amtrak's existing enterprise systems such as financial databases and human resources software. Amtrak expects to have transactions running electronically on Ariba Buyer by October.
